[01] PROJECT OVERVIEW
Timeline: Graphic Design II project, spanning the last 8 weeks of Fall 2023 semester
Challenge: Create a branded sticker that brings awareness to a social issue, challenge, or topic related to health.
Solution: Designed a sticker that highlights the social issue of food insecurity and pays tribute to populations that are disproportionately affected by this injustice.
[02] DISCOVERY PHASE
[03] CREATION PHASE
To help us draw inspiration, we were tasked with completing various exercises to aid us with coming up with different designs. One of those tasks was to create mood boards to brainstorm what color palettes, components, and aesthetics we'd be interested in including in the sticker. The other exercises were supposed to aid us in word play, especially in thinking about the message we wanted to portray in our final sticker.
[04] INITIAL SKETCHES
[05] FINAL DESIGN
The final design combines my initial sketches #1 and #3, which were my classmates' top two favorite designs from our critique days.
I played around with various graffiti styles to make the design look more cohesive, deviating from the original graffiti text design that looked a little more bubbly.
The aesthetic of the design is meant to highlight how food insecurity disproportionately affects Black communities. The white text contrasts against the dark brick wall to highlight the importance of the message, which is that there needs to be more funding for the community resources and government policies that work to combat this systemic injustice.
